CDH Project Manager Reg Beatty supported Ms Pospisil\u2019s work and CDH co-directors Lorraine Janzen Kooistra and Jason Boyd backed the project wholeheartedly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two research fellowships provided welcome opportunities for consolidating the project \u2013 a Visiting Fellowship in summer 2011 at the Universit\u00e4t Freiburg\u2019s Historische Lebenswelten in popul\u00e4ren Wissenkulturen der Gegenwart group (sponsored by Sylvia Paletschek, Barbara Korte and Doris Lechner) and a Visiting Fellowship at Clare Hall, Cambridge in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The research was initially funded by a Standard Research Grant from SSHRC, awarded in 2007 for the project \u201cPublic History in Print Culture: England\u2019s Past in Victorian Periodicals\u201d (no. 410-2007-0020).\u00a0 The grant funded the employment research assistants \u2013 all of them MA students of the University of Windsor\u2019s Graduate Program in History: Lorene Bridgen, Conal Calvert, Meganne Cameron, Mark Cont\u00e9, Erica Lyons, Sean Morton, and Natalie Rubino.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rs4vp.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Research Society for Victorian Periodicals<\/a>\u00a0extended an invitation to present their Michael Wolff Lecture in September 2005 in Washington DC. It was a first opportunity to think about the publishing of history in the periodical press (under the title \u201cNarratives and Editors: History and Historians in Victorian Periodical Research\u201d) and RSVP\u2019s enthusiastic response was vitally important to the way the research developed.<\/p>\n<p>HBooks would not have been\u00a0possible without the online publication, by ProQuest (British Periodicals) and Gale Cengage (Nineteenth-Century Periodicals), of subscription-based digital editions of numerous 19th-century British periodicals.
